The most important advice for would-be side hustlers is to start your sideline as soon as you know it’s something you want to do.

I say this because I had many hustle ideas, but I was afraid to start. I’ve asked friends to partner with me because I was afraid to go at it alone. In addition, I wanted their partnership because I believed their strengths lies in areas where mine doesn’t.

If given the opportunity to turn back time, I would choose to start afraid.

Here are 3 reasons why.

1. I want to claim back those missed opportunities

The chances of succeeding are much higher when you start, as opposed to waiting for a business partner to join you. Before long, someone else would have executed the same idea you had six months ago.

In the book, Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, she recounted how she had an idea for a book but never got the time to write it. The next thing she knew, while having tea with her friend and writer, Ann Patchett, both discovered that their book ideas were the same! Gilbert believes the idea spirit goes to those who will manifest it.

2. Every experience is an opportunity to learn and get better

So what if your idea(s) didn’t succeed? Be brave, document your journey publicly.
Who knows? A mentor might appear and guide you towards the right direction.

You can then “begin again”. Austin Kleon

3. Build your wealth

For the average working class, it’s getting near impossible to “get rich” just by working hard at your place of employment. With the rising inflation, little to no salary increment, and no additional sources of income, we’re stuck running endlessly in a loop on the hamster wheel.

In Nicolas Cole’s no-nonsense tweet, he broke it down for us: to build wealth is to make money by working for it.

Cole’s idea of building wealth is to be entrepreneurial by solving problems for other people. The entrepreneurial route is not for everyone, and certainly, as of this article, not for me. That’s why I’m here to work on that side hustle which will be my foundation towards building wealth.
